Later, her daughter revealed that it was the first time her family had seen her smile in over a year. “It brought tears to my eyes that I was able to give them that moment.”

When Magic Takes an Unexpected Turn

Live performances come with their share of surprises. One night, while performing his egg bag routine, he ran into an unexpected challenge. At the end of the trick, he produces a shot glass—but that night, he forgot to ensure there was no carbonation inside. Mid-performance, he felt the gimmick come loose in his pocket, and as he moved, the shot glass spilled all over him. “It looked as if I had just peed my pants on stage, lol!” Quick on his feet, he turned the mishap into a laugh, reassuring the audience: “That is not what you think it is—it’s just the glass that spilled in my pocket.”

Advice for Aspiring Magicians

For those looking to take their magic to the next level, his advice is clear: don’t try to learn everything at once. “Really focus on mastering a trick before moving on to the next,” Ray says. “Try to think outside the box and make the magic your own. If possible, find a mentor who is doing what you aspire to do. Go out and perform any chance you get, even if it’s for free. The stage time will help you grow, and I promise, the paid shows will come. Most importantly, have fun and stay humble.”

The One Trick He Would Perform Forever

If he could only perform one trick for the rest of his career, it would be his card manipulation act. “All I need is one deck of cards, and I’m set to go,” he explains. It’s an act that has taken him around the world and remains one of the most talked-about performances in his shows.
